Baby Riv is looking less and less like a baby these days, so I figured it was time to finally post
some a million photos from when he was still a newborn. My sweet mom took our first family photos when he was just six days old and he already looks SO different at six weeks old. Time truly is a thief. It’s realizations like these that make me a little less ashamed to be such a mamarazzi, otherwise I might forget what he looked like at every stage. Sure, my entire iCloud photo library is entirely made up of River shots, but I’m starting to think it’s totally justifiable.
I also want to give a big shout out to the other handsome dude in the photos. Parenting ain’t easy but I know for a fact it would be impossible without my husband. Sam has been the most amazing partner through it all, and I couldn’t feel luckier to have him by my side as we navigate all of this unknown territory. Since the day Riv was born, Sam has been up every night with me — soothing River when he was screaming, changing diapers at all hours, making sure I had what I needed to nurse, calming me down when I thought I might cry. He’s literally been my rock. We’ve both had our stressed-out moments, but at the end of the day, we make it a point to laugh off the craziness and remind each other how lucky we are to be Riv’s parents.
I heard about hearts feeling as though they’ve doubled in size when a child is born, but I swear mine has quadrupled. Meeting River and seeing Sam be a dad have been the two most special, heart-expanding experiences of my life. Nearly every moment has felt surreal. From watching him read a book to Riv or play him songs on the guitar, to hearing him brag about River and show anyone within a five-foot radius the latest funny photo of him, I feel like I have at least a dozen “pinch me” moments a day. Riv might not realize it yet, but he’s got the coolest dad in the world.
Happy (early) Father’s Day, Sammy! You really are the best of the best.
